Protecting Your Furniture When Moving House

Moving house can be an exciting time, but it can also be very stressful, especially when we consider how much there is to do. As well as ensuring all the relevant paperwork is completed, we also have to ensure that we are able to move furniture and belongings without them getting damaged. Regardless of how far we’re planning to move, not moving our items in the right way could mean that they become damaged along the way. While some of the following suggestions may seem obvious, there are also some that you may not have considered. The following tips can help ensure that your furniture reaches its destination unscathed.

Clean Your Furniture

This doesn’t mean that your furniture is in a shabby condition, but it is worth noting that furniture can collect debris, and it’s not always visible to the naked eye. However, some debris can scratch the furniture while it’s in transit, so ensuring it is cleaned thoroughly beforehand can ensure that there are no nasty surprises when you reach your destination.

Disassemble Furniture Where Possible

While many pieces of furniture are designed to be positioned around the home, they don’t always fare so well while in transit. As such, you should look to disassemble your furniture when possible. IT can seem like more work in the interim, but taking the time out to ensure your furniture is as safe as possible when in transit means that there is less likelihood of it being damaged when being transported.

Pack Your Furniture in the Right Way

While it can be tempting to make do with what we have, it is advisable to ensure that you have the right kind of packaging material when it comes to moving house. While you can make use of cardboard boxes to add a protective layer to your furniture, you should ensure that your moving blankets are designed for the task in hand.

Many may assume that there is no difference when it comes to blanket, and just use one that is already in the home. However, blankets overall aren’t designed to protect furniture, and can even cause damage in some instances due to the harsh fibres. However, removal blankets are designed for removals, and will therefore protect your furniture when in transit.

Unpack as Carefully as You Packed

When we get to our new home, it is often the case that we want everything inside the property as soon as possible. However, becoming too excited can mean that we’re not being as careful as we should, meaning that goods can be damaged even after we’ve arrived. While there’s no harm in ensuring that things are done quickly, ensuring that we concentrate on the task at hand will ensure that items make into the house safely.

There is no magic wand that can make the moving process any easier, but knowing what to factor in when moving ensures that there is less stress, and you can enjoy your new home with all the furniture intact.
