About Northumbria Probation Trust

Our vision: Communities in which people live free from crime and the fear of crime.

Northumbria Probation Trust is one of only two probation trusts in the North East and is responsible for all services delivered to offenders under probation supervision. This includes offenders subject to community orders and released from prison on licence in the term of their removal.

We supervise an average of 7000 offenders at any one time and employ approximately 580 staff. We have 20 community supervision teams across Northumbria, where offenders are supervised on a day to day basis.

We cover the county of Northumberland and the metropolitan districts of Newcastle, North Tyneside, South Tyneside, Gateshead and Sunderland.

We have six local delivery units, one for each local authority area, with a senior manager based in the area who is responsible for the delivery of local probation services. Each local delivery unit concentrates on particular issues and solutions which are most relevant to that area that will have the greatest impact on protecting the public and cutting crime.

Northumbria Probation Trust has a strategic alliance with West Yorkshire Probation Trust. This enables both trusts to work more closely together, sharing resources and expertise. It creates an extremely effective public sector probation body which will ensure local communities in both areas continue to receive first rate probation services.

The area is governed by Northumbria Probation Trust Board and is part of the National Offender Management Service (NOMS).
